Welcome to State of Work.
StateOfWork.org (the "Site") is a national worker-listening initiative operated by Avren Corp., a Wyoming corporation ("Avren," "we," "us," or "our").
These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the Site. By using the Site or submitting information, you agree to these Terms.
1. About State of Work
State of Work collects firsthand accounts of Americans' employment experiences, including unemployment, layoffs, underemployment, income changes, job searches, and workplace conditions.
Our purpose is to better understand and document these experiences through research, aggregated findings, public reporting, and participant-authorized stories.
State of Work is a voluntary research and storytelling initiative. It is not a government agency, employment service, legal service, or representative statistical survey.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to submit information through the Site.
Participation is voluntary, and no Avren account is required.
3. Your Submissions
You may provide information about your employment experiences, including written accounts, survey responses, and, where available, audio recordings.
You are responsible for the information you submit. Please share your own experiences truthfully and avoid including confidential information or identifying details about other people unless you are authorized to disclose them.
You retain ownership of your original submissions.
By submitting information, you grant Avren a nonexclusive, royalty-free license to store, process, analyze, and use that information to operate State of Work, conduct research, produce aggregate findings, and publish research reports.
This permission is subject to our Privacy Policy, applicable law, and your rights to request deletion.
4. Publication of Individual Stories
Your responses may contribute to aggregate research and published findings.
We will not publicly publish excerpts from your individual written account or your audio recordings without your separate, explicit permission.
If you grant publication permission, we may edit selected excerpts for clarity, length, and removal of identifying details without materially changing their meaning.
We may decline to publish or remove any submission or excerpt at our discretion.
Although we take steps to protect participant privacy, we cannot guarantee that every account can be made completely anonymous.
5. Research Limitations
State of Work relies on voluntarily submitted, self-reported experiences.
We do not independently verify every submission. Our findings may not represent the experiences of all American workers.
Research, reports, and other content on the Site are provided for informational purposes and should not be interpreted as official employment statistics or individualized professional advice.
6. No Legal Advice
State of Work does not provide legal advice, determine whether unlawful conduct occurred, assess potential legal claims, or recommend legal action.
Submitting an experience does not create an attorney-client relationship with Avren.
If you need legal advice, consult a licensed attorney.
7. Acceptable Use
You agree not to submit intentionally false, threatening, defamatory, unlawful, or otherwise harmful material; impersonate another person; violate another person's privacy; or interfere with the Site's operation or security.
We may remove submissions or restrict access when necessary to protect participants, third parties, or the integrity of the initiative.
8. Intellectual Property
The State of Work name, website design, graphics, and original website content belong to Avren or its licensors.
You may not reproduce or commercially use our website content without permission, except as allowed by law.
9. Disclaimers and Liability
The Site and its content are provided "as is" and "as available."
We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, complete accuracy, or error-free operation.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Avren is not responsible for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from use of the Site.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Avren's total liability arising from your use of the Site will not exceed $100.
Nothing in these Terms limits rights or remedies that cannot legally be waived.
